F.M. Tunecast
We use an F.M. Tuncast to broadcast a backstory about our haunt. Visitors within about a two block radius can tune their car radios to 88.7 F.M and listen to the story. There are four radio frequencies to choose from, but the more expensive models come with more options.
Listen to our broadcast:
How-to:
2. Write a story about your haunt.
3. Use a music mixing program to record your story. We used Cakewalk but I think Audacity has some shareware you can download for free. Play around with the program settings to get the sound you want. We also added a track(s) for sounds and music. I think we had four tracks total.
4. Burn the recording to a CD
5. Purchase a Belkin Tunecast FM Transmitter -I got mine at Staples
6. Purchase a headphone extension cord.
7. Plug the headphone extension into the tunecast and then to the headphone port on your CD player.
8. Play around with the channel settings to find one which works in your area.
9. I have found the higher you place the transmitter the better the range, this thing also will eat batteries, the fresher the batteries the better the transmission.
10. Make a sign to let your visitors know you are broadcasting!
There are more expensive ways to accomplish a broadcast of your haunt story. However, this is a cheap and simple solution which suits our needs. We usually get about a two block radius. If you do an internet search for “tunecast modifications” you will find many different ways to boost the signal. You should be aware FCC guidelines and signal strength.
